Has anyone used landscape fabric under the mulch to keep the weeds down. I hate to weed and the pine needles just don't seem to help with the weeds

Been there done that. They say if you use garden fabric the pine straw will wash away with a good rain. I was advised to use Preen and it works great.

Faye,,, I think I must have at least 3 layers of the black weed fabric in my beds and it degrades so fast that I don't think it helps much. The last time, Steve Mansfield put the fabric down and stones over it and I must say, it is very much improved. I happen to have a very large bed area in the front of my house and next week we're going to change the configuration of it and put more fabric and stones because I'm sick of weeding. UGH!!

Up North (MI) we have to use Preen in the spring before weed growth starts after winter, then retreat after a few months. It never seems to do the whole trick. Is it different in FL? When do you start using it, or can you start at any time?
