Default Gardenias (not the houses!)

My favorite flower in the world is the gardenia. Are they easy to grow? Does anyone know how often and when they flower? Are there any other nice smelling flowers that would be good planted near the lanai?

I planted a gardenia purposefully just outside my front door. It has just bloomed. This is the main season but I think I get some blossoms in the fall also.

dwarf lilacs will give some privacy as well as sweet fragrance. star lilies also produce great perfume - most effective when planted in clusters.
