Question Hauling & Disposal

I have 4 large potted plants on my lanai that did not survive the winter (an ongoing problem). I need to have them carted away and disposed of. 2 of them are large and heavy, a hand truck or furniture dolly will be needed. They are approx. (24" in diameter and 24" deep, still in the original rubber nursery containers. The other two are Podocarpis (sp?) approximately 12" in diameter and 14" deep. I would think anyone with a trailer could haul these away for a reasonable cost. Please help.

Also, has anyone found large, green privacy plants that will grow in pots on the lanai and survive our climate? Your advice and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I bet any yard/nursery guy passing by, toss him $20, and he'll take them off your hands.

We have European Fan Palms and Windmill Palms in 24" pots and they're doing great. They grow slower but that's fine for us.

I'm surprised the Podocarpus died, we have those in the yard and they did fine, but the earth gives more protection than a pot. good luck.

Thanks John,

It's a little hard to catch some of my yard guys as they race down the street. However, I can check with my neighbors and see if their gardener wants to pick up a couple extra bucks. My guy is strictly "mow & blow".

Interested and pleased to hear about your success with the palms in pots. I have a beautiful European Palm outside the window of my study and just love it. One thought comes to mind and that's whether or not they will get enough direct sunlight on the lanai. I'll check with a couple of nurseries to get their opinions.

My one european fan palm was a $12 walmart special and just a twig about 3 years ago. Now it's just gorgeous! And the pot/placement are in a spot where it gets partial sun, not a ton. We've got a couple other European fans in the ground and they're thriving too. It's a very cold hardy palm.
