The varieties shown have been popular for years and are great choices, if planted in the proper location.
I do wish the designs fit the common Village lots. Most don't have the generous side yard area. As for the drainage areas and special easements common to TV, probably not applicable to most homes in TV.
Also, the designer's love for beds at the end of a driveway, though aesthetic, can cause safety issues for people backing out, if any of the plants grow above 30 inches. Those beds at the end of the drive were one of my trademarks in my early designs, but I stopped doing them a decade ago due to a lack of practicality and plant health difficulties due to close proximity to roadway materials
All in all, nice generic designs for some of the premier homes, on paper. If I have some spare time I might input on my 3-D landscape program just to see what the designer saw in his/her mind as far as tiers and bloom color mixes.

What is significant, is that I am a resident of The Villages, and educated in the subject being discussed. Facts and the truth are significant as well. Opinions, like assuming I just said "yes", are not. I am actually an engineer by trade, I do design a landscape for a lucky few now and then as I love doing it and my education and experience makes me quite good at it.

These are the people at UF I ask questions. Notice "Dr" thing in front of the names... seems to be a name missing from the staff and published, a name I hear a lot on this site.

When you say "UF says....." , would you not be more accurate to say, "this guy from a UF outsource project said..."?

My point? That UF does NOT say the queen palm will freeze here. A guy from the Master Gardeners program might have.

I am also saying, that UF has people with Masters degrees and doctorates, they teach people getting college degrees, that in comparison, the Master Gardener program, is a club, creating funds for UF and helping the members take care of their homes. The info provided isn't applicable to people growing plants and trees at the 100s of nurseries across this state. And many times the info I am seeing transferred to this site as hearsay, should be taken with a grain of salt.

ENH-60/EP020: Ornamental Palms for Central Florida

Central Florida Palm planting chart UF EDIS...queen palms are not recommended above zone 9B.
Sumter County is zone 9A.

As I stated in past posts, you wouldn't want to grow seedlings in zone 9A, but the adults do just fine, as history and the experts attest. When the experts say not to be grown North of 9B, it is applicable to nurseries growing seedlings. As with humans, adults are tougher. They have been growing this far North for 100 years, I expect them to continue to grow here another 100 years ....even though some people tell them they can't do it.

This hate for the queen palm you show, had to stem from some horrible experience.

Did some carpet bagging transplant with a chainsaw come stick an ice pick in the trunk of your queen palm and convince you to pay him...to remove your healthy queens? I bet they were beautiful, and I'm sorry. Those guys should be ashamed.
