Default Lawn Care

Stay away from Augustyn's Lawn Care. If you don't care when your lawn gets cut, he's you guy. Otherwise find someone who's reliable and will cut on a regular schedule. Not whenever he feels like it. When we parted ways today, he was nasty. Not a good way to end a business relationship.

I went through numerous services in the past year and a half. The first service mysteriously disappeared after a half year (?) of cutting. A subsequent mowing service (the one I use now) employee told me that the first was in jail (for accepting whole year payments from countless people and then bolting with their money). :-0

I am not mentioning who is my provider now because they are too new to recommend. However, Massey is now my service for keeping my lawn "healthy."

Anyone reading this would recognize my lawn (house) because it was, until recently, covered in "clover." The yard was unlike any other anywhere around. No one complained though! I was away for the overwhelming majority of the time. My son sent me pictures. When I returned to TV, I immediately sought a reliable service. The lawn now "blends" with all those around it.

Here is the catch: While covered in "clover" the lawn was a magnet for bees; zillions of bees. Now, chemically treated, there is no "clover" and the bees have vanished.

I'm thinking of doing the cutting myself and get a pro to do the fertilizing and landscape trim. Will a landscaper do a deal like that?

It is easy to find a company to do the routine fertilizing and other chemical treatments. Massey does a good job. But, if you want someone to trim your shrubs, they are difficult to find.

The clover is not only a food source for bees and butterflies it also fixes nitrogen from the atmosphere on its root nodules. This nitrogen is also available for the surrounding grass and that is why the grass is greener around the clover. Years ago lawn mixes, especially up north, contained white clover seeds. With the arrival of herbicides most of the clover has been killed off. It is a little hot here for white clover, but it looks like it was doing OK in your yard. There is a movement to allow more types of plants in the lawn to feed the insects. It can still be mowed regularly and kept neat and edged. I am up in Massachusetts now and many of the expansive yards around the suburbs of Boston have clover mixed in. Two and three acre yards cost a lot to nuke their yards like we Villagers do. Think of the amount of chemicals we use down here. Insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides are sprayed from large tank trucks on our lawns weekly.

I do the opposite. I do the fertilizing, weeding and hedge cutting and hire someone to mow. This is actually the first time in my life I hired someone to mow. You are probably wise to do it yourself.
The pros need to get the work done or they will have customers screaming. They end up mowing in the rain or wet grass. Not good for their equipment or your lawn. Are their blades sharp-sometimes they are sometimes they are not.

Weekly? Wow that is a lot!
