Default lawn care?

I see that the lawn guys do the typical stuff for about $40-45 a month but they want an annual contract paid.

If I'm there 6 months for example I like to do my own, anyone make a deal with any contractor for part of the year?

Default lawn care

I'm a snow bird & I have Stellar for fertilizing & outside bugs. I have a 6 mo. contract for lawn cutting with them for AROUND $275.00??? (as of 5/1 -10/31) ; in order to get a 6 mo. contract U must have some of their services which I qualified for.
They ONLY USE PUSH MOWERS THAT MULCH, better than using those big riding mowers on the grass & sprinkler heads. Stellar gives SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Jimbo, we don't have an annual contract with our mowers. They bill us each month at the beginning of the month. We do, however, have them take care of the mowing (and edging, weeding the flower beds, and trimming the shrubs) year-round - that was all we talked about with them up-front. No contract, just a "Here's-what-we'd-like-done"/"Here's-what-we-charge-per-month" verbal agreement.

Might be worth giving them a call to see if they can help you out. John - Honey-Do Guys (352) 753-5558 I wouldn't give them the '5-Star Award' but they get the job done for us.

We pay by the month. I know so many people who paid in advance for six months or a year, and never received the service. Many lawn guys are reputable and dependable, but some are not!

We pay by the month and it may not be fair to the homeowner but it is to the lawn guy.

In the winter when the grass is in dormancy the need to cut the lawn is practically zero, except for a few weeds that grow no matter what the conditions are. Those weeds are still growing in the planting area in the winter too. During the summer months the grass practically grows when you look at it, so the lawn guys are cutting it a lot, and trimming back bushes and weeding, usually spraying weeds in plant beds and fertilizing the grass. $45 a month is a HUGE bargain compared to what most of us were charged up North...granted our lawns were bigger, but I think that is more than a fair price.

So we pay this reasonable price monthly, all year long and don't get much for it in the winter but more than makes up for it in the nine month long summer here.

A bottom line caution:

Never, ever, pay up front for a long-term contract/program. Therein money will inevitably be lost.

My lawn-care guy once offered a weeding/trimming add-on service. After a couple of months, he realized that he just couldn't do that.

So, I added someone else to do the weeding and trimming stuff that I no longer want to handle!

Now, my first lawn guy has given up the business altogether, and his successor is perfectly happy to arrange a contract where he doesn't have to personally take on any more work!

You've really got to weigh what you're personally capable of doing against how much you can afford to keep your place looking nice!
