We have lived here 5 years and I have been through about 7 different lawn care companies. Most scalp our St Augustine lawn. Some have broken sprinkler heads with their big tractor type mowers and then deny it. The one who is mowing now shows up every 3 weeks and then mows it too short. They are supposed to trim our shrubs.....I started calling 9 weeks ago and have called every week with no response. I guess he doesn't want the job.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a lawn service company that uses push mowers only, edges, blows and will trim shubbery and palms when needed? I won't use Stellar because they require payment in advance (or they did)

I have owned a home there for 10 years & had the same problem. LVI -Lee is the best of about 5. We don't live there which makes it worse. He has done the yard regularly & well. We had broken sprinkler heads which he denied causing but the one we got to repair them was a thief recommended here on Talk of the Villages. Lee does a good job on the hedges also but everything is MONEY. The Villages attracts that kind of vendor because they have a captive audience & think we are all rich & demented. Maybe folks there should start doing their own yards. My neighbor does his & it is beautiful. Good luck

Stellar does not require advance payment, although they do offer a discount for a 1year advance with a contract. They will use push mowers only if that is your desire, and they are extremely responsive if there is any sort of problem. They also show up when they say they will.

We have used Stellar for the 2 years we have been here for literally all our outdoor needs and cannot praise them enough. And yes we do pay in advance and get the discount and have not regretted it for a minute. They are the best.

I'm a lawn care professional,Quality and Dependability Cost! I don't service The Villages but I would suspect this holds true as it does where I live.

The fly by righter lawn guys don't have the cost of sprinkler head replacement figured into their cost. They can't afford to absorb the cost so they are just letting you go or you are letting them go when this becomes an issue.

Expect to pay more if requesting push mowing, time is money in our business.

Another vote for Stellar. The yearly pay in advance cost for the second year is significantly lower than the first year cost. I had no idea about this until I got my second year bill. They show up, respond if called. They are not a fly by night company so I do not mind paying in advance.

Been there. I found a new company who mow by hand if requested. It is the machine that most of the time break the sprinkler heads. They also insist on cutting the lawn higher than all the other companies. This give the lawn less if a chance to burn. They do the complete lawn work. They are a young couple just starting out.
