Default Reel Mower for St Augustine grass?

I have seen posts here on Reel Mowers working well for Zoysia Grass. Does anyone have good results with these mowers on St. Augustine type grass?

St. Augustine grass would be near impossible to cut with a manual reel mower.

Agree bu there are residential quality powered reel mowers available but expesive and require more maintnance. Rotary mowers do work good on St. Augustine

A reel mower? Are you considering a hand push mower? It is a lot of WORK even with a small amount of grass. Also, a reel mower, look at the space beweeen the wheel and the cutting blade. It will not cut close to a wall. With a small lawn you will be happier with a rechargeable
mower. If, you've read that a reel mower gives you a more sizzor like cut, that is true. Getting one sharpened and properly set up is expensive. There are gas powered reel mowers. They are still made. They are expensive.

Default Not recommended

I had a Fiskars model Reel Mower in NC and used it on Fescue. It was a workout (to push) and would not give an even cut. It needed constant adjustment to align the reel against the cutting edge. I gave up on it after a season.

I bought it for the work out and it being environmentally friendly, but it had severe limitations.

Hmm, interesting replies. I grew up mowing lawns of St. Augustine to make extra money and all I had was a manual rotary mower. Today I we have St Augustine grass, but admittedly a postage stamp yard (Court Yard Villa) and I use a manual rotary, it is not hard at all. This is the one I use - it is very impressive compared to the plain Jane model I grew up with.
