I want to get a robelinni palm and have it planted. Can anyone suggest a good source? Thanks!

Remember robilini are tropical and not cold hardy.....requiring covering for frost and subject to significant damage when temps go below freezing for any prolonged length of time.

Terrascape on CR 301 has an extensive nursery. Robellini palms are pretty, but very sensitive. I had two large Robellini palms planted close to the house so they would be sheltered from the wind. Last year I had them removed because I got tired of covering them up when there was danger of frost.

Villages Palms, located on CR 466 near Rolling Acres, have a nice selection of Roebellinii's....from 7 gallon to 15 gallon, and several even larger. And they will come out and plant the larger ones in The Villages.

And these plants can be poisonous to some people. I have heard of some

We had...I stress had...a Robellini. We planted it in a large pot on the lanai. It looked pretty for the almost year we had it...very sensitive...it got the 'scale' thing and we were advised to get it out of the birdcage and destroy it. It was a lot of work.

Its a shame, such a beautiful plant and it has so many problems. I had 2 beautiful ones planted on the sunniest side of my lanai but they didn't survive the bad frost we had a few years ago. It just lasted way too long for them to survive even being covered. I hated to remove them but had no choice.

I wish they were hardier because there is nothing as cute as a Robellini palm (unless it's a puppy). Most people just grow tired of the work of covering Robellini palms, and sadly, even covering them doesn't always keep them from damage or dying.

You do better to wrap anything temp sensitive with the old fashion white Christmas tree lights overnight.

Some of my neighbors used one lit incandescent bulb under their coverings but I didn't think of that 3 years ago.

A staked spotlight with a 150 watt red heat lamp aimed up toward the crown will also work well. That's what I use on my Pindo palms up here in Birmingham whenever we have a low below 15F forecasted, and they've never shown any damage.

When we eventually move to TV, I'll definitely have Roebellenis in my backyard jungle. The beauty they add will far exceed the extra work they may require to protect from cold.

I appreciate your comments and candor. Almost every villa in our neighborhood has a beautiful Robellini and I've never seen one covered. I have seen a couple that looked like they may have had a little frost damage but they recovered in the spring. With my black thumb I may be the first to be sorry I planted one! Thanks again!
