Default sand topdressing

Can anyone recommend a person to topdress and level a lawn?

We're from Georgia where top dressing Bermuda grass was very common. When I mentioned doing that down here I was told adding black earth was recommended as everything below the original turf is already sand. You might get opinions from your lawn care folks.

I am assuming that by "level the lawn" you mean filling occasional low spots and NOT actually leveling the entire lawn. If you level the entire lawn, you may change the drainage in ways that could be very detrimental to you or your neighbors property, also this may require ARC approval. I agree with the previous comment about NOT using sand but good earth for this.

I understood your question...
If you are adding coffee lightly and often for tannic acid (as you should), you will "fix" the only problem your grass has with the sand below your sod.

Topdressing black dirt helps a bit for a little while, but the MAJOR issue here is... you are promoting shallow roots, creating a new handful of issues I would need to write a small pamphlet to explain . In short:

The organic matter will decompose and leave you with the same bumpy lawn fairly quickly.

Shallow roots will grow and your grass will look better, but the roots will be located where the soil dries out VERY FAST (several short term and long term problems here).

When in doubt, watch the golf course maintenance ( on the NICE looking courses). THEY use sand. When they want to add topsoil, they REMOVE the SOD, and put the topsoil in.. then replace the sod.

TOPsoil does not mean TOPDRESS soil.
