Angry sprinkler valves stuck

I had a bad valve in one sprinkler zone. Just got back down here and found I have grubs due to lawn not getting water. I have worked on 2 zones so far and both do not work without me manually turning the valves. When I manually turn on Zone 1, I hear squeaking coming from the valve. The water is dribbling out of the heads. I have to manually turn valve and then I can hear the gush of water go through. So then it is fine. Then I try again manually and find the same issue. I am not sure what the problem is. So far Zones 1 and 2 are acting up at the new valves. They will not fire up on theirt own. Any suggestions?
I would also consider hiring someone with a push mower, that does weeding and trimming and knows his sprinklers. I just fired my last guy due to neglect. I need someone with sprinkler knowledge due to my problems always stem from lack of water. I have grubs and weeds. Why are these guys so good the first year and then terrible the following year.

Do a search on lawn sprinklers, there is a gentleman, Baumgardner (I think) that is highly recommended for sprinklers.

BEST sprinkler guy out there - Jim Baumgartner (352) 504-2317. Replaced 14 of our sprinkler heads. Set up the zones on our box, double checks that everything is working and just OUTSTANDING.

Jim is helpful and does great work. In my case, however, he gouged the price on parts. Charged me $75 for a solenoid valve that I later found at ACE Hardware for $18. Assuming he gets them wholesale, that is a 650% markup.

In our case, you could give us the solenoid valve for free and we would still be standing there going duh. When Jim left, our system was working and we were smiling. Did he charge labor on top of the part?

Yes, he charged labor...a fair price in my opinion. He just got too damn greedy on the valve. Because he likes to talk....a lot......tales of selling irrigation systems to pot growers, etc...... I got a full explanation on all the workings of my system and am now able to do all my own repairs.

Assuming you believe he has no other costs associated with the part. But, now that you know next time I also assume you will get the part and fix it yourself.....wait, you didn't know how to do that which is why you called Jim. Guess knowledge should be free right?

I used Jim. he was not cheap. however he did a much better job than the guy before him. So i paid a lot less before him and had issues. I paid a lot more than I thought I would and have a system that seems very good. I would use Jim again because most of my pain has been felt. I need reliable water system and Jim came through and did job on a timely basis. I feel satisfied and would use him again.

Thumbs up irrigation repairs

I had great results with Chip Parrish of Action Irrigation. 352-516-2281.
He shows up on time, is very cost reasonable, and really knows what he's doing.

Jim B is the best. IMHO

Charged me $75 for a job that Massey said would cost $525. Nuff said......

But that would involve DIY, a lost art here in TV for most people.
