The Paradise rec center is not a lost and found location to receive found items. Why not use the Villages official guidelines? Here is the link. Go to this website and click on "lost and found guidelines".

Those guidelines refer to where and how items can be claimed, they do not give guidance as to what to do with found items.

Taking the iPad to the Paradise Rec Center will make it easier for the owner to claim it this afternoon before it is sent outside the Villages.

The Villages guidelines name specific rec centers that are responsible for handling lost and found items. If an item is found inside a rec center, or on the rec center property, most rec centers will hold the item for a few days and then transfer it to the authorized location. Since this item was not found at the Paradise rec center, that rec center has no responsibility for it, and the OP should not drop it off there. They should take it to one of the rec centers named in the guidelines. If the owner of the IPad does not read this forum, he/she may read the guidelines, and would have no reason to look for it at the Paradise rec center.

If I lost an item in the historic section I would first go to a rec center in the historic section to see if it was turned in whether I read the guidelines or not. If I did happen to read the guidelines then I would also check at La Hacienda but that would certainly not be my first stop.

I disagree. Items valued at more than $50 are held at one of the rec centers named in the guidelines for 72 hours, and then transferred to law enforcement in accordance with Florida law. The item that is referred to in this thread was NOT found at any rec center. Therefore, the Paradise rec center has no responsibility to hold it, and they should not even accept it. The owner of the IPad would have no reason to look for it at the Paradise rec center unless they read this thread, which is unlikely. The whole reason for the guidelines is to inform people where to go if they lose or find an item in The Villages. If I had found the item, I would have asked the owner to contact me, and if they didn't, I would take the item to one of the authorized rec centers named in the guidelines. The finder can also make a claim for the item if law enforcement does not locate the owner.

Apparently, some people think that all rec centers are drop-off locations for lost and found items. They are not. That is why The Villages publishes lost and found guidelines. It also ensures that items valued at more than $50 are properly transferred to law enforcement in a timely manner, which is required by Florida law.
