Sounds like you have a general idea where the tag is. Good bet it is in a lost and found bin in that area. Politely go to each building and ask if they have it. Walking around and around for 5 minutes might locate it within 30 feet.

I lost my wallet at a movie theater. I walked around and narrowed it to a wall with a hidden office behind. Manager went in and said he couldn't find it in the lost and found tub. I insisted I had a strong signal. We both went in found the wallet UNDER the lost and found tub.
