Did you try calling or texting the phone, some will allow the user to answer even if locked.

Yes, I called many times, the phone rings and rings but no answer.

You can answer a phone call without unlocking the phone.

So that leads me to believe that someone has found it and plugged in into a charger. There is a message on the screen to call me so anyone that looks at it will see the phone number.

I think (hope) I will turn up in the next few days.

Other possibility, it is laying in the grass somewhere. Try going out later at night and calling the phone to see if you hear or see it light up, hope you find it.

it was picked up that night by a lady, she said it was on a chair, the phone was on mute so she never heard it ring until 4 days later she happened to be walking by the phone while I was calling and saw it flashing and answered.

I hope the number you said to call was not the phone number of the cell phone.
