Any idea where this was lost, the villages is 75 square miles? Also, while this might seem silly, please carefully check around your car and inside, I have accidently dropped a key between the driver's seat and the center consol.

Would you be able to get another from Subaru if you give them the VIN?

Try to narrow down the area you might have lost it. Then go around the area and knock on business doors. Check with the rec centers, local and regional. Check with the police, and post office.

To the OP: Tuesday was not August 27 and, as others have pointed out, the Villages is a big place so please narrow things down just a little.

While this won't help the OP, Apple AirTags came into our life when we discovered what it cost to replace the key that we lost. A $25 tag on the keychain will hopefully save us $$$$ in the future.

I like the idea of contacting Subaru for a replacement, you will probably need to bring sufficient documentation that you actually own the car, and i am sure the replacement will not be cheap. You can also check with the local locksmith, but my understanding is that they can DUPLICATE a key, they may not be able to replace a key.

Affordable Lock, 352-259-8820, in Lady Lake will handle the paperwork and replace the key for about $300, depending on the model. It may take up to 3 days for the paperwork to be approved, and they need the vehicle to program the key.

Agree with the comment about putting an AirTag on your keyring. Both the wife and I have them on our rings. Has saved the day several times.

The ignition switch for our 2017 Subaru was defective. New switch installed, at the dealer was about $100. They had records that enabled a key match. Otherwise Flash Locksmith in Ocala does great work, reasonable price. Duplicate smart key for a Hyundai was about $300.

Note that making a duplicate key or making a new key from a VIN are two different things. Apparently, if all you have is the VIN, you need to prove that you own the vehicle and they need to have the vehicle to program the key. This is required for both dealers and locksmiths.

19 years is a long time. But I agree, when we lost a key obtaining a spare as soon as possible was at the top of our todo list.

This is probably a stupid idea, but if the car is home in your garage you lost the key at home someplace, or how did you get there?
