I have had a lot of experience with Alzheimer's now and so far-- knock on wood-- have not had of my own. Alzheimer's Association | Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Help Alzheimer'''s Association | Alzheimer'''s Disease & Dementia Help

It still seems like they know little actually about it.

Some of the Veterans I helped at the Veterans' Hospital in Reno, Nevada had Alzheimer's. I volunteered for a year of Saturday afternoons there in 1978-1979. I was on the Long Term Care wing .

The oldest of these had been in the Spanish American war of 1898. He was around 100 years old in 1978. The youngest was a Vietnam Vet who had been playing around with a pool stick and rough housing at a bar . He had stuck the pool stick in his nose and someone had bumped into him pushing the pool stick into his brain. He could talk and walk ok but did have some serious medical problems. He was maybe 30 in 1978. I had drawn pictures of the patients there made from photos taken by a very talented photographer. They had hung these up by the patient's door.

I didn't realize he lived back in the 1800's. I had an uncle back in the 1970's who probably had it. Back then I think it was just called senility.
