I need a hearing aid: my first. Have looked into the two above. Looking for advice on brand and suppliers/office/company.

I would go and get the free hearing test from several hearing aid places. Listen to their spiel and get the names of the hearing aids that they sell. Look them up on the internet and then decide.
Hearing aids that really work are not cheap. I paid $2000 per ear - twice. But I can hear - although my wife does not think so. You usually get a 30 day free trial. Take it and go back as many times as you need to make sure they work. Don't let them pressure you. Only YOU can tell if they really work. The first set of hearing aids were a problem for me and it took me a while to get used to them. But once I did, it was heaven. Z |

These are Microtech which is a brand of Starkye which I understand from various reviews the Starkey's are made in Mn, USA. And highly rated.
All About Hearing in Spanish Springs sells them. Z, I agree with that. They currently running summer spcl for just below 5k for a premium set with life time adjustment included and several follow ups. Last edited by TV MAN; 08-28-2014 at 03:43 PM. Reason: Update |

I don't know what your insurance situation looks like, but if your primary physician refers you for a hearing test to an audiologist (ENT type) the test would be covered by most insurances and Medicare.
And, the test results are yours and you can take them to ANY hearing center and ask for their recommendations and pricing. I would highly recommend a Costco hearing center. You don't need a membership, until you decide to buy, the aid prices are a LOT lower than most places, and they will gladly let you test drive a set in the store. My insurance BCBS now has a benefit of $2500 per pair every 2 years for the aid costs and I was only out of pocket for about $900 for my pair of Siemen Pure Aids in Nov 2012.

See an audiologist, not a hearing aid salesperson. Most audiologists are doctors, AU.D. A hearing aid salesperson must be 18 years old and needs a high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months training.
