Default Anyone here have their uvula removed? Long term side effects?

I've had issues for 1.5 years of feeling something stuck in my throat. Tons of tests. It's not acid reflux. Uvula is long and touches tongue. Doctor is ready to remove it. But it seems he will remove the entire thing, not just partial. He didn't really say why he won't do partial.

Anyhow, it's not being removed for snoring or apnea. I have burning mouth syndrome also, which I'm hoping is related to the uvula issue also.

Of course, I read nothing but horror stories online so looking for anyone that had experience with this. Thanks

I have had my uvula removed since 2007 without any issues at all. My ENT doctor also complimented me on my "large Uvula".

He actually made two incisions in the roof of my mouth in attempt to "tighten" things up.

Hi, yes I had mine removed back in 2009 and it's been a great relief. Like yours mine was overly long and would touch the back of my tongue. I would absolutely do it again.

I had mine removed at 20 and have never had any problems.

Thanks. Not in Florida yet. Close on house in a few weeks and will only be part time.

I had mine removed 25 years ago for snoring. No problems.

A buddy had his removed as an attempt to stop his snoring. Didn't work for him and he claimed that afterward he had issues with milk coming out his nose. Couldn't get him to demonstrate same. Good to read here of so many successes. Good luck with that syndrome. Tough one.

Okay, I’m so sorry that I decided to read this thread at breakfast.

Don’t do it. A UP3 (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) will leave you with coughing, choking, and swallowing issues forever. Find another doctor. Consult with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

I used to get sinus infections fairly frequently and went to an Ear, Nose & Throat place about it. Turns out I had a deviated septum, overly large turbinates and an oversized uvula. Had the septum repaired, trimmed all three sets of turbinates and had the uvula trisected, which essentially removed it. It seems like I get more post-nasal drainage than I used to and I can no longer make authentic-sounding pig snorts but I haven't had a sinus infection in years, so I guess it was worth it to me. I didn't have this done to remedy snoring, but my wife would tell you that I'm still a pretty capable snorer.

Well, heck, no one told me I wouldn't be able to make pig snorts. I have to rethink this whole thing.

Actually I did talk to the doctor and he will just be trimming it back, not removing it entirely. Since my only issue seems to be it touching my tongue, I will be good without taking it all out. Hopefully that will lessen any long term affects. Maybe I'll even be able to call to the wild hogs on my preserve. If I can, BBQ ribs for everyone!
