They have had it at the Walmart on 466 for some weeks now. There's another brand of organic beans but the price is about .30 cents higher. Eightyeight cents is a good price, in my opinion. And it's low sodium although it is not labeled as such.
I stocked up!! I'm wondering if it pays to cook beans from scratch anymore. The beans I have been cooking since 2006 are not organic, it takes a long time to soak and cook and it takes a lot of electricity. (But I don't like filling up my trash with cans.) I'll probably end up doing a little of both. There is an article in the business section of the Daily Sun today about "organics going mainstream, with price breaks to follow." Walmart was mentioned. They said "Walmart will introduce the organic wild Oats line as its exclusive private label at prices comparable to conventional foods." They said it will happen later this year but the Wild Oats organic beans are already on the shelf. For shoppers, price has been the main obstacle. Walmart claims that 91% of their shoppers would buy organic if the price would be closer to conventional. I think we are on the verge of a big change as Target and other stores join in. Even Whole Foods has begun to slowly lower their prices on organics. |
