There are several studies in the area, Synexus and charter research are a couple of them, you could contact them and see if they have any suggestions, I am assuming you mean dementia. I have also seen ads for studies in the Orlando area. Also, your primary care doctor may have some suggestions.

Your primary care physician will probably be the one to refer patient to neurologist. Also the medicare wellness test will also indicate if something might be going on.

I have been to Charter for their memory test and that is a good resource.

Have you clicked on the edit button on the original post, and then on "go advanced" to edit the thread title? This "may" allow you to change the thread title.

Have you not been able to see the neurologist at Shand's yet ? (from your past postings) If not will your insurance allow you to see a specialist of your choice. Find another. I suspect this may be why you are asking for specialist near TV. Keep the Shand's appointment open in case you want a second opinion. Are you really looking for the cause or are you seeking confirmation of dementia and possible next steps ?

You need a neuropsychologist. Your primary doctor has to refer you.

We started with cardiologist, who knew patient well, no primary care on record.

Through elder care attorneys, We had a court appointed social worker. Actually two different people at different days. Each came to home, with 4 hour evaluation, with observation, and conversations.

Neither a cardiologist nor a social worker has the training nor expertise to do a proper assessment for dementia. Plan on going to a specialist. They don't come to your home for four hours of conversation.

Actually, it was the cardiologist who was a close personal friend noticed that there may be some dementia issues. Due to family issues, an elder care office was recommended.

The elder care offices use Dementia DSWs. Who do pre evaluation for, Language, skills, visual, perception, attention, problem-solving, skills, movement senses, balance, reflexes, in an environment that the person is comfortable, and familiar with.

Then if needed proceed to an appointment with Neurologist for further evaluation, where and not limited to test provided:
CT, MRI, or Pet scans, and blood work, ordered.

From there medication evaluated, when needed.

Our neurologist is also close personal friend, who guided us the entire process. Saves his NP time, and will use evaluation to move patient into Neurologist next available appointment.

You might want to go to the ClinicalTrials.gov website and see if there are any clinical trials that might be beneficial for the patient. You can narrow your search down to the state where the patient lives. Good luck to you.
