Unhappy Dentists

Just asking if anyone has used DR Gaitan in Mulberry or Aesthetic Dental on Heald Way? I am with PCP under Argus dental, so I would like to take advantage of the dental coverage. Dr Fisher is maxed out with Argus.

If not, have you used any GOOD dentists outside the Villages that don't rob you blind. I am not looking to pay for half of what it cost them to set up their practice.

We love Palm Ridge Dental on 101 (behind the CVS 466. They do not take any insurance BUT will bill for you and so far we have gotten 100% reimbursement for their charges. Good luck.

Are you saying your insurance carrier reimbursed you directly? That is great however, PCP will not do that. We must use their enrolled dentist if we want to be covered.

Avoid Colony Modern Denistry at 466a and Exceptional Denistry in Spanish Springs (both the same dentists and staff). I should have read Talk of the Villages before ever doing business with them. There were already complaints posted by our members. I posted my complaints yesterday.

We really need to stick together and recommend good service and shout loudly and frequently about poor, shady or unethical services.

We have a unique network that could be powerful if we use it wisely.

I wish I could recommend a good dentist for you. Hopefully a few of our members will come forward and recommend the "good guys".

I went to Dr Gaitan once to get a tooth pulled. It was the only time because I wanted the proceedure to be covered by my HMO. He did the job but it wasn't easy; at one point he asked his assistant for a hammer and chisel: I'm not kidding! I didn't feel any pain but I could feel the vibrations every time he hit the chisel. But I suppose he did the best he could under the circumstances. At any rate, he really worked hard for his money that time.

What you will need to find out is if you like the hygienist. I didn't. I didn't get my teeth cleaned but the hygienist wanted me to go back in the chair for some reason and I told her I couldn't go all the way down. I told her it would make me dizzy because I have positional dizzyness. She said, "well, I can't do what I need to do unless you go all the way back". But I know from experience there are many hygienists who don't require that. So I wondered if she might have been new on the job.

Here's a question: Do some dentists use different hygienists (less skilled?) for HMO work? I wonder if perhaps they are new or not very good for some reason. The HMO may chisel them down on the amount of money paid for proceedures and the dentist in turn may give you cheaper service. It's just a suspicion of mine.

Another Palm Ridge. We do not have dental ins and find them as reasonable or maybe better than others.

Wife and I have used Dr Maria Luong ( Serenity Dental Spa) in Spanish Springs for last two years. She provides good care at a fair price. We found out about her here on TOTV after revewing numerous posts . Hers were all very positive with no negative comments. Wish she would change the name of her practice to remove the term Spa.

Another vote for Palm Ridge. Dr. Katherine Williams, great dentist. Reasonable. I was first recommended to this practice by a retired dentist so that was good enough for me.

I had an old, and I do mean old, wisdom tooth which was breaking down and I was totally terrified of having anyone touch this beast. One morning I broke a huge chunk off this thing and out of fear went immediately to their office. The receptionist went to speak to Dr. Williams, she came out to see me in the front area, said "sit down and wait for me, I'll do it now", and she did. She removed this awful tooth and I felt nothing, I did hear it cracking, but that was to be expected. She told me to keep a pad on the deep root hole, gave me her personal home phone number in case I had pain, and told me to come in the next day. I had no pain, no infection, and it cost me under $200. If she had sent me to a specialist to have it removed it would have cost a lot more.

I(and my mom) went to Dr. Gaitan for first time today. Office staff was friendly. We were seen on time. Carol did good job with my teeth cleaning and she was very gentle with my apprehensive mom. I found Dr. Gaitan so soft spoken that he is sometimes tough to understand, but Chris, an assistant was very clear in explaining doctor's findings and proposed plan of treatment. I will need crown work that is not paid in full by my insurance. The office gave me detailed breakdown of expected charges I would incur. I was completely satisfied with my visit.

Hi Biker Dog. My husband & I have found a dentist outside TV whom we like very much. I called the Pankey Insititute when we moved here, looking for a recommendation of a dentist similar to the practice we went to in PA. Anyway, we go to Tim Pruett in Tavares. Love, love, love not only the dentist, but the entire staff as well. Quality, intelligent, educating, caring...all of them. The bonus is that although he does not participate in insurance plans, his fees are less than what I have found here in TV for quality care.

Thank you. Nice to hear from someone from our area. Will keep him in mind.

Angry Stay away from modern denistry at colony cottage

Dealing with Modern dentistry was a nightmare. First problem: I broke a lingual wire. A dentist repaired it. She also rebonded a front tooth. She left the country, the wire broke after one week, the bonding fell of after one month. I called and they never called back. I stopped in and I am sure the receptionist does not pass on the complaints. She again, told me someone would contact me. I am out the money spent and will have to pay to have it all done again. 2) My husband broke a tooth, called and the receptionist was very snippy to him and basically told him she couldn't schedule him, but someone would call him back. No one ever did and we found another dentist that fixed his tooth with a new crown.

Modern Dentistry is unprofessional, does not stand by their work, will not return calls and the receptionist should be fired for not relaying messages to other professionals in the office so at LEAST a discussion can occur.
