Default Hip Replacement

Can anyone recommend a doc who does a great job on hip replacements? I need one but am thinking of having it done there instead of here in SC because it would be more fun to recover down there.
If you have had one can you tell me a little about the rehab, and do you have any permanent restrictions? or can you do everything that you could do previously?? How long is the recovery? Thanks!

I recommend Dr. Messieh, he's here one day a week, from Clermont. He explains everything, not knife happy, uses anterior approach, for less disruption of muscle, better recovery.

I had my hip replaced here in September of last year. I am completely recovered and back to playing golf, walking normally and enjoying the Villages lifestyle. Dr. Ollivierre of the Fl. Musculoskeletal Institute did the surgery. I'll admit his protocol after surgery seemed cautious. While other people were allowed to do anything, my surgeon waited 5 weeks before allowing me to bend over. I spent 3 weeks in a rehab facility and another 5 under my daughter the drill Sargent. But at the end of that I could drive again without pain. I should add that I was off pain pills before the end of rehab. But I walk without a limp and I'm grateful. All in all check out Dr. Ollivierre, I strongly recommend him.

I have had both of my hips replaced. The first was done in NYC Hospital of Special Surgery the posterior method. The muscle was cut to do the surgery. Lots of hip precautions and a long recovery with rehab. The second hip was done by Dr. Locker in Ocala. He replaced the hip using the Anterior replacement method. The surgeon goes in through a space between the muscles to complete the hip replacement. There were no restrictions and recovery was much quicker. Run don't walk to Dr. Locker or a surgery who has learned the anterior method of hip replacement.

I had mine done by Dr. John Williams of Leesburg and The Villages at Tri-County Orthopedics and all went well for me. I'm fully recovered now and feeling great.

I had a hip replacement in November 2014 by Dr. James Duke in Ocala. I was in West Marion Community Hospital for 2 nights in a private room. They started me on PT the next morning. I had rehab at home with a PT that came to the house 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Recovery took about 4 months before I could play golf and go to water aerobics. Now, 8 months later, I can do everything without pain! I highly recommend Dr. Duke, he is an excellent Doctor and a very kind man. Before surgery, he gathers everyone in the operating room and they say a prayer for the patient!!! He has performed over 7500 hip replacements!

My husband had Dr Locker in Feb, Was on the golf course in 3 1/2 weeks.Great follow up with therapy and nursing care. He is a gem! Also he is a instructor in his method all over the country. We could not be happier with the Orthopedic Institute in Ocala.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm optimistic that I can find a fine surgeon that can have me up and at 'em again!

I had a hip replacement in 2010 @ Rothman Institute in philly. I had a wonderful surgeon and physical therapist and my rehab was fabulous. PT let me double up on workouts. On my feet and back to work strong (standing/walking) after 3 months. I was very motivated to get back up to speed. I work out daily @ the gym and never had a problem. Surgeon advised me not to run or jump - other than those 2, no further restrictions. My pain was managed really well. Good luck down here.
