Default Everyone with bad hips

I recently had my right hip replaced and it was a good thing I did it when I did. Was on the table for three and a half hours, that was how bad it was. I procrastinated for 8 years. Yes the pain finally got so bad that I had to do it. All can say is if you have hip issues get them looked at now don't wait, and get it replaced. I was probably close to not being able to have it fixed(wheel chair time) I feel great now four weeks out the only pain is muscle pain and that gets better daily. This is only my opinion. Find the right doctor research him and interview with them.

Lots of bad hips and also bad knees. The medical advances In this area have made this surgery rather routine. With people living longer, the age of the "bionic man/woman" is now here.

Congratulations on the success of your hip replacement. My husband had his about 3 years ago and is back to hitting the pavement with his running shoes for the last 2 1/2 years.

What he has learned is to ask to go through the image machines at the airport. He shows his card that he has a metal hip and that is almost useless. When going through the metal detector it's guaranteed he'll be frisked.

PT was a tremendous help and something we both think helped him have such a quick and good recovery. It wasn't always easy and they liked to challenge him, but it was was what gave him the ability to get back to normal activity.

One last thing I recommend the anterior approach no muscle or ligaments are cut it helps for better out come. Also Physical therapy is not required with this type of surgery.

Glad to hear that your hip replacement worked out good for you.

Did your doctor say what caused you to need a hip replacement in the first place, like osteoporosis? Did he recommend any lifestyle changes to prevent further bone issues?

In 2005 I was set for a bi-lateral hip replacement because I was bone on bone in both hips. I received the monthly issue of AARP magazine that had an article about an Orthopedic surgeon in Milwaukee who needed surgery for himself. He was a very active guy who liked to horseback ride and pilot his own plane. He had Hip resurfacing instead of Hip replacement which conserves all of the bone that is normally taken out in a replacement. He was so thrilled on how it worked for him that he trained for it and was now performing the surgery on his own patients.

I called his office and asked who performed the surgery on the Doc, (because I want the Doc who operates on other Docs) and I was told it was Dr. Thomas Gross in Columbia SC. I was living on Long Island but I sent my x-rays to him and I got a call from him on a Sunday night and he talked to me for 45 minutes. Needless to say I knew this was the surgeon I wanted. One hip on Mon 2nd Hip on Wed. On a walker Thurs. No PT just some exercises to do at home. Week 1 Walker Week 2 Crutches Week 3 Cane Week 4 pain free for 9 years and counting.
