It's based on many years of observation and in consultation with a number of doctors I've had over the years.

Doctors aren't God. They often disagree among each other. A good doctor of course is an important tool to have in your quiver of tools. A second opinion is another good one. But no doctor knows your body after a 15 minute examination as well as you do.

100 day cough is also known as whooping cough. I may be wrong but I believe it is contagious. At least in the beginning. I hope this IS NOT what the OP has. This would mean a respiratory infection.

You are correct. Whooping cough or pertussis has also been known by the archaic term "100 day cough". It IS highly contagious, but fortunately most of us has been vaccinated. Immunity does fade with age, so any grandparents who plan on having close contact with a newborn should be re-vaccinated.

Unless you are immunocompromised, you should have developed immunity against pertussis after having the disease. But just like the vaccine, that immunity fades with age, so the same advice regarding newborns applies.
