We just came back from a cruise to Alaska. I estimate that over 50% of our fellow shipmates were travelers from Asian countries --- which I am only adding this information because I think that it is relevant. I am not going to get into a political discussion, but both my husband and I were up-to-date for Covid / flu / RSV vaccinations, and we came down with a whopper of illness while on the ship. Chills, fever, PHLEGM and mucus by the gallons, and a terrible hacking cough. We ran out of our personal stash of Theraflu and Sudafed, and attempted to get some in the ship's Medical office, but they could only offer us some off-brand Dollar-store cough medicine for $30 as they had ran out of all the prescription strength medicine due to rampant sickness on board. Since we had the alcohol package, we drank a lot of hot tea with honey mixed with shots of brandy or whiskey, and that quieted the cough a bit. When we got home (still sick) we tested positive for Covid. It has taken us about 5 weeks to get back to feeling good, and occasionally there's still a loogie waiting to be coughed up.

I usually call the doctor's office after the first week. Sometimes they have me come in for a test. Sometimes they suggest Nyquil, plenty of fluids, rest, and staying away from anyone who's smoking.

My aunt had a hacking cough with phlegm that lasted 1-2 months, and then she died from lung cancer. But she'd been suffering from lung cancer for several years, refused to do anything about it, smoked 3 packs a day, and the coughing was her final warning before she keeled over.

What you have heard is about a blood pressure medicine in a category called ACE Inhibitors. Lisinopril is one. There are others. These drugs can cause some patients to have a dry, hacking cough.

I wish I had posted that. Oh, wait, I did in post #24. I knew it sounded familiar

I don't see what the Asian comment has to do with getting sick on a boat. Relevant how?
