Hand Surgeons Are Needed
I have carpal tunnel syndrome. Following the advice of the TOTV posters, I called Dr Harding and Dr Chin's office for an appointment. Dr Harding is booking in February and Dr Chin is booking in December. After the appointment, I was told surgery could be another three to four months from then. What a great area for neurologists to find work. Wish there were a few more in the vicinity.

You might try Orlando, Tampa and Ocala---perhaps your Primary Doctor can make an appointment for you that would put you on a faster track.
No doubt there is a shortage of medical Doctors and nurses in and near TV. The medical community has just not kept up to the rapid expansion of the Villages community.

I called Dr. Harding & Chin too and I got a appointment late January. Her office did not inform me it would be another 3-4 months for surgery. I cannot wait 8 months and will start looking for hand surgeons in Orlando and Tampa.

Don't rush to discount Ocala docs. My husband had an MI followed by a TBI in early August. I cannot give enough praise to all the doctors who work in Ocala Regional Medical Center and HealthSouth. He was in the Villages Hospital for two weeks prior. The Ocala Hospitals and docs are lights years better than anything the Villages has to offer. There are many neurologists in Ocala and at Shands in Gainesville. All of our docs in the future will be from a Ocala, and my husband will need plenty of specialists.

We also need a new neurosurgeon to replace our Dr. Spurrier whose left as well as rheumatologists (who all are connected with the Villages Health-care system. I've also heard we need endocronologists as well. It's all well and good to travel but would be "handy" to have them right here, especially with the new additions of TVHS, TVRH and the health-care speciality clinic.

I have used Dr. Chin....I was very pleased with her knowledge and professionalism....she is a former Professor and practicing Hand Surgeon at UF. I can not say where else is best to go with your particular problem. But, I do believe you are better off with a Board Certified Hand Surgeon than a Neurosurgeon.
