Angry Swine Flu

I thought I would share with TOTV our experience. My wife and I returned from the UK about 8 weeks ago and 2 weeks after getting home I came down with a flu and a week later my wife also came down with it. When looking at the symptons it would appear that we had the matching symptons for Swine Flu.
We did go to a Dr. and received some antibiotics to prevent against a secondary infection. If it was the swine flu, which we suspect it was, it lasts about 5-6 days with a high temp of 101-102 for a day or two, very sore throat, and the rest of the problems that come with a flu including a lousy cough.. Good news is that the more serious problems were over in 5-6 days but remain weak and tired for a few weeks afterwards. It has been mentioned that it is not as bad a the regular flu and if it was the swine flu that is right. It is over faster and a shorter time of bad effects except for being tired and weak.

It appears to me to be more dangerous to teenagers and young adults, possibly because some form of it may have appeared before and we older folks may have built some immunity to it....just my opinion, I am not a health professional.

I'm wondering if you get it once early like you did, will you have immunity to it the next time around???

We are from Indianapolis, IN. We went back to Indy this May for the Indy 500 race. A friend of mine's brother came up from New Mexico with a group of employees to see the race. Immediately after the race he became ill and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was extremely ill and diagnosed with Swine Flu. After several weeks of touch and go treatment including induced coma, he is getting better but still hospitalized. Mentally he is 100%, physically about 75%, rebuilding muscle. A miracle they got him in time.

Dgammon6, it is a shame that your friend became so ill. We consider that we were really lucky in having it as we did. We did go to the Dr's and received a very strong antibiotic before the temp but by then we did have a very bad sore throat. I understand that if you get it you are immune from future bouts. I am hoping that is true. I think the most surprise and the worst part was after we were over the temp, sore throat, etc. we were very weak and tired for a few weeks and the cough hangs on for about 3-4 weeks. Years ago I had the regular flu which lasted over 10-12 days with chills and a high temp. This was not like that. It was like a minor regular flu during the height of the illness.
