Default Lange Eye

I searched TOTV for Lange Eye and all the posts are fairly old. Lange is the only provider that takes my insurance (unless I want to go to Walmart!). Can anyone tell me which doctor you used, successfully or not?

I had an odd experience with Lange. At least, I thought it odd. They advertised an eye exam at a certain price (been a while.....don't remember how much). My exam seemed about like anywhere else I've been. The doctor told me I had very early signs of macular degeration and, at this early stage, just eat more kale, etc.

When I went to pay (no insurance), they tried to charge me considerably more than the advertised price. When I questioned it, they said it was because the doctor had made a diagnosis. Now keep in mind, he did not do any additional test or any other procedure....just said eat kale.

I refused to pay the higher price, and finally someone said OK, just the advertised price. I have never been back and have never purchased a pair of glasses from them.

Short-sighted on their part.....pun intended!

To be honest.....Walmart is a great place to go for vision. I have an appointment with the one on 466 soon. I have no first hand knowledge for this particular store yet, but I have been to Walmart vision centers all over the country and always found them to be knowledgable, fair, and always have great Dr's. The Dr at the one on 466 is a female and comes highly recommended.

I go to Lange for my annual check because they're close and just see whichever doctor is available. I don't find opthamologists to be particularly friendly or personable as a group, so my expectations are kind of low. Their office is nice and they have a dispensary for frames. I've never used it so don't know if they make the lenses in house or have to send them out.

I don't need anything complicated -- they check my vision, dilate and check for any retinal problems and I'm out. They have their own line of eye vitamins or whatever it is, but they've never pushed them on me.

But now that you mention it, I should go over to Wal-Mart because my insurance doesn't cover refraction and I'm sure they're less expensive! TOTV is always so informative.

I've been a patient of Dr Lange for several years. I like him very much. I am very comfortable with him and I trust his knowledge.
