I'm not a TVer quite yet, so no I didn't have it done down there. But I did have it done about 10 years ago up here in Birmingham, and all I can say is it was the best money I ever spent. And when it comes to any kind of eye surgery I definitely WOULD NOT price shop. I paid $2400 per eye to have mine done by one of the best eye surgeons in the southeast, Dr. Marc Michelson, based here in Birmingham who has been doing lasik longer than almost anyone. I could have "saved" approx $1000 per eye to have it done somewhere else here, but the surgeon was someone who traveled all over the country doing it, and had I had a complication who knows where he would have been or how soon he could have seen me again. I only have two eyes & I couldn't take the chance. So definitely check into the credentials of any doctor you're considering, and hopefully your experience will be as rewarding as mine. It's a painless procedure, over in just a minute or two.

X2, I am a wannabe so no local help here but I agree with every word in the quote.
Best money spent and it changed my life. Would do it again without giving it one thought.

I had it done back in 2000 at MUSC in Charleston, SC....and I would do it again. I wore glasses my entire life. The day of my Lasik was the first time I could see everything with no glasses. I had mine done mono so there was no need for reading glasses.

HOWEVER.....aging does make a difference. I am back to wearing glasses. Lasik does not prevent the changing of the shape of the eye or stop the thickening of the lens (cataract) or numerous other aspects of growing olders effect on the eyes.

Now I sit here contemplating getting my cataracts removed and being confronted with very much the same decision making as when I was thinking about Lasik.

If you are in the younger age group 50 through 60-ish with healthy eyes, knowing it could be temporary (who knows for how many years) and you can afford it, then by all means do it. Being able to see without glasses has no equal. Being able to buy any type of sunglasses you want was an enjoyable side effect.

Just be sure to make an informed decision as there are many choices...... the most important is the Lasik surgeon. The newer the technology used the better.

Good luck.

I had it done in Tampa, Florida by Dr. Antonio Prado. He did Wade Boggs the baseball player so I figured he could do mine. Done more than 10 years ago and love not wearing glasses. My eyes are monovision..one sees distance and one close, not everyone can adapt to that but I had contacts like that so no problem for me. I don't need glasses to read or for distance. I'm sure the procedure has only got better since I had it.

I had both eyes done in MI in 1999 and agree it was the best decision.
Have only had my eyes checked once around 2008 or 09 and no problems.

I wanted to get it done a few years ago but never did. They wanted to do the mono vision and that scared me a little.
