Default Medical records question

Looking to move to TV within the next few months, and was wondering how you handled getting your existing medical records to new doctors in TV. Did you bring copies from your former doctors? I saw on other threads where people had them transferred from their former doctor to their new doctor in TV.

Obviously we haven't contacted any doctors in TV yet. Am bringing my 91-year old MIL and she has a pacemaker. Want to advise her how we will handle getting her medical history transferred.

Thanks for all the great advice and recommendations on this forum.

I asked for copies and brought them down myself. When you go for your first visits here...they will ask you to come in early (or will send you their paperwork) for you to fill out. My practioner here in T.V. (well her nurse) was appreciative for the records so she could transfer them into my chart. Once here....if you are referred to another practioner, they will transfer your information electronically. That has been my experience, anyway.

Appreciate you sharing your experience. Putting MIL's mind at ease on how we will make the transition easier will help us a lot. Thanks againg for your quick response!

Brought all my medical records down from NYC and gave the records to the physicians down here. All seemed to appreciate having them for reference.

Thank you both. Great idea to redo tests so they are current MLB.

Can't believe all the "little things" involved in moving. Medical records are only one!

Since we have moved a lot. I always get my own copies of medical records then when I get new doctor I make a copy for them. You never know if you will stay with same doctor.

My old doctors were more modern than they are down here so we got our medical records on a CD. However even though they were printed out and given to each doctor, they never read them so it was a waste of time for us as we did not have much in the way of pre-existing problems. My first doctor milked me for all she could get so I left her. The second doctor looked at the list of prescriptions I printed and presented to her as proof that I was on that medication for years and she simply told me that she would not prescribe any of it. Third doctor was a charm.

Even if your doctor's don't appear to read the information, they have it in your file for the future (so as not to take your word for it). You do have to be pro-active and advocate for yourself. Finding a good doctor may be a process in The Villages but don't be discouraged. It is possible to find them! I also go with my "gut feeling" with appointments with new practioners (that, with word-of-mouth). Fortunately, I've only encountered one "lemon" so far and quickly made an "exit" of that practice!!!

So true Mikitv! Thanks for sharing. I'll be sure we don't give the only copy to the first doctor we use.

That is reassuring. We have focused so much on type of home, etc., now we are getting down to the other important things. . . doctors, dentists, etc. That is where kind folks like you who share on TOTV that helps us "abouttobees" so much. Thanks a bunch!
