Default Nurse/caregiver?

My husband had a stroke, seizures, etc. I need a break for couple weeks and am looking for a retired nurse to stay at our home (while I'm away) He can do most everything for himself, showers, walks daily etc but must be reminded to take meds, eat, etc. He doesn't drive due to seizures. I basically cannot go away if I have to worry so would need someone reliable to be with him (in case of seizures) any suggestions, ideas etc appreciated

Default RN

Hello,

I am a Registered Nurse of 30 years. I am not yet retired; I recently left a position as a Director of Patient Services at a Homecare agency in NY. I moved to The Villages 8 months ago to care for my Aunt, since I am her POA and Health Care Surrogate.

Respite and relief for Caregivers is so very important!

I believe that you may be able to bring him to a respite situation, through his Medicare. However, if being at his own home is more comfortable, I may be interested.

Do you have dates in mind?

Christine Chiarelli, RN, BSN

Respite is completely unaffordable for a spouse just needing a break. Possibly end of July into aug

My father was receiving palliative care via hospice for 3 weeks, but they only had a nurse come out once a week and a CNA twice a week. I wanted extra help, so I found a few private pay nurses (retired) and a home health care aid to come out on days that hospice was not coming out. If anyone is looking for a really experienced home health care aid, I found a really good one, she lives in the Spanish Springs area, highly recommended. DM (send me a message) if you want her contact info..

We have had very good workers from Right at Home for the most part. They have some limitations with respect to minimum hours worked and the like.
