My wife came down with PF almost 8 years ago now - it got worse and turned into "Tarsal Tunnel" (think carpal tunnel, but with feet). She's had two surgeries on each foot. She bought the inserts (6 different kinds); she bought the "Oofo's", the Birkenstocks, the Vionics. She had PRP treatment - twice - in each foot. She bought exercise boards for stretching - did reflexology, massage, etc. What helps? Well, limiting steps, daily (less than 6,000). Hot soaks. Foot rubs and/or massages, of course. But in the long run, not a lot helps. Not a lot. It's a daily struggle. On the other hand, I had PF about 10 years ago, got a good pair of inserts and mine went away (never to return- so far) in 8-10 weeks. The variances of genetics, I suppose!

I think all foot problems starts with bad pair of shoes, for me, 40 years of wearing combat boots and steel toes shoes ruined my feet, hammer toes, bone spurs, Circulation problems, back problems, hip problems are just few I know about. I get relief with inserts, stretching my ham strings, and of course shoes that don’t add to the problem. I will only take drug if I am in severe pain cause I don’t like the after effects, and the all have them, even over the counter prolonged use. I’m sure one day will come when I will have to take drugs on daily bases

I also had success with a custom made orthotic.

Standing and walking are also causing excruciating BACK PAIN. It all seems to be related to muscle pain. I'm on my second mattress (medium/firm) and am feeling WORSE in my lower back and hip. Anyone have a mattress recommendation?

I did too. Bought mine online for less than $200 (they send you the foam box to get an impression of your feet). They've lasted 20 years. Two friends have done the same with positive results.

I've had Plantar Fasciitis, very painful. I had two shots, the first did nothing, the second worked great (different docs, go figure).
I take yoga regularly and practice at home too. Flexing the feet and stretching those tendons and I've not had a recurrence in some years now. |

Thank you all for sharing your experience with this dreadful condition. I was an avid walker but never stretched and did not know how important stretching is for feet/legs and back. The recovery is slow and extremely painful some days but knowing others have had a successful results gives me hope.

As this condition continues I've noticed recently that my calf muscle is extremely tight and causes extreme pain but I've discovered a stretch that seems to be helping both the plantar faciitis and the calf. Place your foot against a wall and press down slowly. It also helps to extend the arm and bend forward which stretches the length of the sciatic nerve. I've been having some good results and hope it continues. Again my thanks to all of you who have contributed to this post.

If none of those remedies work I had TOPAZ surgery in Oct. 2012. fixed it completely!! I did also have an Achilles lengthening too, that one was the one that hurt the most! TOPAZ alone will cure it with no recurrence.

I'd like to keep this post active because I want to offer support and encouragement to those who are suffering with this terrible condition. Those who have written about their personal experience have contributed greatly and I hope this discussion will continue. Thank you all!

Coming back from NJ for a week and was looking forward to a massage from YoYo. I just called and she does not work there anymore. Do you know how the other Therapists stack up? The women on the phone indicated she has 3 great ladies. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

[B]Highly recommend watching Classical Stretch by Essentrics on PBS. Miranda Esmonde-White is fantastic!
She explains each exercise and how the stretch will help improve flexibility. |

I’ve been wearing Birks for 40 years. Imagine my shock to see my young teen granddaughters wearing them this summer! They’re back in style! |

Massage and stretching are the key as well as good shoes.
