Default Home health no show

My husband had open heart for leaking aortic valve and 2 artery bypass. Got home on Friday. Home health visited on Saturday and went on and on about how important that they checked my husband for at least 4 straight days. At the hospital we were told if no one showed by 10am call. Well no one called so I called and was told no visit was scheduled. A phone check was scheduled instead. No one told us this. I waited all day and there was no phone call. There was no visit scheduled for tomorrow because we have a doctors appointment. I am a retired nurse and was able to do all the checks they would have done but what if I had not been a nurse and something was not right. I am real easy going but this is unacceptable and I will complain.

That's horrible, Hope. Thank goodness you had the skills necessary to care for your husband. He is a lucky man to have you.

"Sorry" doesn't cut it if you're pushing daisies. It pays to be an active consumer of medical care these days. Question, call, complain, whatever it takes. After all, your life means much more to you than it does to the providers. As far as they're concerned, you're just another case. Sad...but true.
