Has anyone had rotator cuff surgery or related arm, shoulder, or hand treatment in the past two to three years? If you had any of these procedures, and the results were successful, could

No surgery, just personal, anecdotal experience from someone with ZERO medical knowledge.

According to all the orthopedic Dr's, I've had torn rotator cuffs and a torn Labrum, for almost 10 years. Turned out, the sudden pain was really related to PMR. 2 different Orthopedic guys had recommended surgery. My Chiropractor golfing buddy said to me, "Rotator Cuff surgery at your age, after all the golf you've played? Are you nuts? That'll be like trying to stitch together, 2 pieces of wet toilet paper".

After finally got rid of the PMR and a regiment of PT seemed to fix me up. I don't have any pain and have a 4.4 golf handicap.

I have friends who've had Rotator Cuff surgery at an advanced age, who question their decision to do it. Long recovery for minimal benefit. My non-medical advice is, don't rush into anything and get a couple of medical opinions.

I had a rotator cuff repair about 7 years ago. If you have pain and/or reduced functionality then you may be a candidate for a repair. For me, the pain was something I could not live with. Typically, you will be sent to physical therapy first to see if the symptoms can be reduced to an acceptable level. Mike Moser in Gainesville did the procedure and the outcome was good. Typically, you are in a sling for 6 weeks. I was back to full golf swings at 16 weeks and pitching and putting as soon as the sling came off. The first 6 weeks in the sling is the most challenging; sleeping can be problematic. Rehab starts the day after the surgery and is typically 2-3 times a week for 16 weeks, YMMV.

I have had cuff surgery on my right shoulder and reverse shoulder replacement on my left shoulder. The first was done in Indiana the week before Thanksgiving about 14 years ago. By the first of March I had almost full use of my arm.

Dr. Alfred Cook here in TV did my shoulder replacement as something (?) was too damaged for repair. This surgery, for me, was very very hard to rehab and took me close to a year before it felt mostly functional. I would do a lot to not go through that again. He is a great surgeon, just a hard rehab.

Tore a rotator cuff this past spring...had to put a hold on tennis and golf for a time--had a hard time even lifting the arm past shoulder height. A visit to Doc and a cortisone shot cut the pain by probably 70% to the point where I can play golf and tennis again. As long as cortisone does the trick I wouldn't even consider surgery.

The fun part was watching the needle go into my shoulder on some kind of portable monitor machine he had.

I had complete reverse shoulder replacement on my right shoulder. My rotator cuff was completely destroyed so repair was not an option. I had to get it treated because I couldn’t raise my right arm without helping it with my left.

I used Dr Krueger with Orthopedics Institute. I highly recommend him. Be warned though, he is very aggressive with the rehab plan that was performed by Lake Centre Rehab. My use improved rapidly. My range is about 90% of pre injury.
