Default Elimination diet showed the way

http://www.livestrong.com/article/265055-list-of-foods-for-those-allergic-to-nightshade/
How many out there either suspect or know for a fact, via trial and error/elimination of certain foods, that they are allergic to the nightshade family of veggies?

The main culprits seem to be potatoes, tomatoes, red and green peppers, cayenne pepper, etc. eggplant, tobacco, and others.....

The "symptoms"after indulging are usually stiffness and joint inflammation or pain.

Included in above link are some healthy alternatives to the nightshade veggies.

Yet another link that is even more "food for thought" re eliminating certain foodstuffs.....please keep scrolling all the way down to read in its entirety.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/558387-foods-that-flare-up-rheumatism/

Having done the elimination diet of the above mentioned foods, which include meats, eggs and dairy........then added them back, I can most definitely see the difference. Amazingly so.

Of course, this "experiment" on my part was complicated by also having to live with sub zero temps as well as single digit temperatures and lots of snow and ice of late.......two different culprits.......food....plus weather which does chill you to the bone.

The vegans and vegetarians are to be applauded for their steadfastness in spreading their message.

Now to find a way around it all for a "meat eating family".

Senior, lately we seem to be on the same track. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a book by Jean Carper: "Foods That Heal". A few days ago I read what she said about Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). She said it could be due to a food allergy or food sensitivity. And to find out which foods you shouldn't be eating you would use a process of elimination. You would eliminate a certain suspected food for a certain amount of time. I was going to tell you about it but you beat me to it.

Good for you! I'm glad you found something that works. Will you be a vegan or vegetarian now? Or perhaps a pescetarian?

I'm reading a great book called Grain Brain by Dr David Perlmutter. Talks a lot about inflammation caused by carbohydrates. Mostly grains, but some vegetables and especially fruits.

Add to this excellent book, the best seller "Wheat Belly"! Enlightening for sure on how our foods are making us fat and sick as well. Sugar is addicting as is wheat (gluten) and causes folks to want more AND to over-eat. That trips the glycemic levels to increase.

I do a modified Paleo diet - cutting out all grains except for rice (which doesn't bother me) and I do indulge with sugar.......can't be perfect! Look up Paleo on Google. There is tons of information and recipes.

Jean Carper's Complete Healthy Cookbook: I've ordered her cookbook from amazon.com..........as well as the book you mentioned. Scroll down on amazon page to read comments of others. Ditto for 2 other books listed below (read comments on amazon).

Another great book which I've had for years, also still available on amazon, is :

GREEN PHARMACY GUIDE TO HEALING FOODS by James Duke
************************************************** ***

I've always been interested in the same subjects as you are, in addition to wanting to avoid pharmaceuticals.....

One recent wonderful discovery which is working quite well is Lakewood pure tart cherry juice. You can also find that on amazon.com

It's worked wonderfully on the inflammation plus the morning stiffness and often all day stiffness during inclement weather/cold.

Fresh cherries are so perishable.

This juice is straight juice; no sugar or anything else. Arrives in excellent packing.

Pack of 6, each is 32-Ounce bottle (total of 192-Ounces)

Reduces the risk factors of cancer, heart disease, stroke & premature aging

Anti-oxidants and phytonutrients to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels

Anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce the symptoms of gout & arthritis

Fresh pressed juice from whole ripe black(dark sweet)cherries

Senior, I mistakenly typed in the wrong book title. It's not "Foods That Heal".
It's "Food - Your Miracle Medicine" by Jean Carper. On the cover of the book it says: How Food Can Prevent And Cure Over 100 Symptoms And Problems, Based on More Than 10,000 Scientific Studies.

I bought my book used at the book store in The Villages. The copyright date is 1994 but I think the information is still worthwhile reading. I think there may be an updated version. Online it says, "Copyright 1994 - 2014".

If it has been updated, I might go ahead and get the latest version.

Sorry for the mix-up on the book's title.

I don't see why it wouldn't be helpful. It's certainly worth a try. I had a friend who had a problem with his hands. He told me about a time when he ate some peanut brittle before going to bed and he was in pain all night.

But it might not be exactly the same for everyone. For some it might be sugar, dairy products, cereals, corn, meat, or vegetable oils etc.. In general, there are foods to avoid and foods that may be helpful. You can find out by using the elimination process.

No problem. I knew what you meant; the correct book is on its way. "Food: Your Miracle Medicine." Thank you.

I've always enjoyed old books as long as the information is relevant. Hers is. Thank you again for reminding me.

Wikipedia has a list of Jean Carper's writings in addition to info on her career.....you might find some books mentioned which you have not yet read. I've always found this type of reading enjoyable; a change from the typical novels I put on my kindle.

I'm looking forward to receiving the package from amazon. Still snowing here; it's getting old. Speaking of old, she has a book on aging......or, I should say, slowing it down....."Stop Aging Now". We wish.

Glad to hear that you didn't order the wrong book.

I have read some of her other books, I'll have to check and see which ones I have. Some of them may have been borrowed from the library. "Stop Aging Now" sounds very familiar. I might have read it. I'll find out.

If you Google the Dr. Oz show he had a show about the Elimination Diet. There are some videos you can watch about a 7 day plan to help start the process. The wife and I watched and we are going to give it a try. Below is a link that might help find the video:
