I m so sorry to hear that you have a case of the singles.

I personally never had it but my uncle did and he suffered greatly. He never complained about anything except the singles.

Please, everyone, get the singles vacinnation as this is very painful.

I had shingles in the face - I managed to get immediate treatment for it at one of the major hospitals in Boston, but still had unbelievable pain for at least three months. The pain was so bad I used to lay face down on the couch and cry.

We did have a friend who had something called Internal Shingles (never heard of it before) and he had pain for about three years, it finally went away.

My wife had heart surgery on December 24th. In early January, while still in the hospital, she got the shingles internally and almost died. She had a complete respiratory collapse and had to be placed on a ventilator. The doctors did not think she would make it, but she did rally and is now home. She is still on oxygen, has facial paralysis (Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome caused by shingles), but she is recovering slowly. Ironically, she had the shingles vaccine in November. It is not 100% effective. We thank God every day that she survived this ordeal, and we look forward to the day that we can finally get down to TV.

When I had shingles about 6 years ago the doctor prescribed Cymbalta. Said it had just been proved useful for nerve pain. It worked great AND I was worried about being depressed when coming off it (at that time all TV adds we're for depression) no residual side effects. Good luck !!

My mild case of shingles isn't even worth talking about after your story, tomjbud. My aunt had shingles on her face a few years back and it blinded her in one eye. My brother had a very severe case several years ago and still, to this day, has major relapses.

dwebb - I developed shingles in an unlikely area - my left ankle and foot. I initially thought I had poison ivy but learned after two weeks that it was shingles. The pain was really bad but bearable. The downside is that I have three toes on my left foot that remained numb since the attach. That was 18 months ago. I was told that that this might go away but it might be forever. Bad stuff. Needless to say I got the shingles shot nd I hope it doesn't come back. Good luck.

I know about shingles pain. I get them on my right palm once a month or more. It itches and hurts. I have a few natural things that I use. Please note, I am not selling something. It's 2 things I use from 2 different companies that cut my bout of shingles to about 2 to 3 days instead of a week or more. It doesn't completely take it away but it's much better now. I still get it as often.

Update - My wife continues to improve. She is off the oxygen and her facial paralysis is much better. We are now in The Villages and are active in many activities - especially ballroom dancing. We will be going up North in August for some follow-up doctor's appointments, but her recovery has been amazing. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Miracles really do happen.

A few years back I had a really bad case of shingles on the left side of my face all the way to my waist. I had scabs all over including right at my eye. When the scab came off, it took some of my bottom lashes and they never grew back. I could hardly get out of bed for 2 weeks. The pain lasted for many months. They put me on Valtrex. Never want to go through that again.

I experienced shingles around 2003 and it ran from my palm up my right arm over my shoulder and back. It is painful and itched as it healed but in my case the pain was tolerable. If I had to compare it to something I would say it was like being bitten by fire ants

What are Internal Shingles?
Shingles is an infection that occurs after reactivation of the virus lying dormant at the nerve ends. When the virus is activated, it travels down the nerve causing a rash on the affected part.
