I had spinal stenosis surgery w fusion a couple of years ago.,certainly would consider having this done in a larger city with a top notch neurosurgeon. Nothing to mess around with. I used the Steelers neurosurgeon in Pittsburgh.

Why don't you research Mayo in Jacksonville. About a three hour drive each way which is a pain, but for something this serious I would think it was worth it.

Dr. Jonathan Citow. The American Center for Spine & Neurosurgery
Well worth the trip to Chicago...
L5-S1 Fusion plus a lot more. I was up and functioning well in less than a week and I couldn't be happier.

I was told recently by an orthopedic surgeon here in the Villages that if you want the best go to Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

Find the most highly regarded surgeon you can and travel if necessary to have it done. I did not and now have permanent nerve damage and will be on a walker for the rest of my life. Be very very careful in your selection.

When it came time for my major spine surgery, my primary care doctor in The Villages referred me to Dr. Parasio.

When Dr. Parasio saw my MRI, he referred me to Dr. Decker at Shands Hospital at University of Florida, where the two of them did the surgery.

Still have great problems, but my original condition was very bad.

The Russian doctor I saw in Fargo, ND said my stenosis was severe and required the larger incision. Hours before surgery on September 6th a bad EKG. cancelled the surgery and required a cardiac clearance. The VA 'choice' program hasn't worked out, thus my outside search for a cardiologist. I'm going to switch from Humana to BCBS Platinum Blue for total coverage. UGH!

Default Back surgeon

I was referred to Dr. Kaplan in Ocala by Dr. Gupta. I'm scheduled for surgery the 15th. Not sure if he is the best but Dr. Gupta said he had his father come up from Miami for surgery with him and he is fine.
