ERs are for emergencies, not jammed fingers.

Default I would have ...

... had my grandchildren eat a popsicle and give me the sticks. Then had them hold them in place while I taped up my finger. LOL

I'm sorry you had that experience. Frustrating for sure. I hope it is feeling better by now!

If the doctor can't look at your X-ray and say "I don't see a fracture but we will call you if the radiologist sees something, that is poor care

Emergency room pricing... Not their fault if you hadn't met your deductible...

I recently had a need for a doctor. Not having a GP here in the Villages, I went to Ocala ER near Trailwinds. I have never been so surprised. I was ready to wait a couple of hours. I sat for 5 minutes or less, I was called into a room, inserted all info into an ipad. The doctor came and ordered a CT and i was home with a diagnosis in under an hour without any money being spent. They were WONDERFUL!!!!

1 doctor onsite. Very nice.
1 radiologist viewing x-rays remotely covering 3 UF facilities.
Waited 3 hours to have my x-ray read.
No one could tell me when the 1 radiologist would get to my x-ray.

Grand Children visiting. Didn't want to spend the 4th of July in the ER with no
assurance I would receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Left in frustration.

Where do you go for treatment of non-life threatning injuries on a holiday in the Villages? People get hurt on holidays to. Why the poor coverage?
Just another Villager that feels privileged.

Many do. All the ones I checked on google for "urgent care with x-rays near me" have x-ray equipment.

Default Dispatch Health

There’s a new urgent care company coming soon which will service The Villages. It’s called Dispatch Health and the care provider comes to your home. Dispatch is established in 38 cities across the US, several in Florida, and has great ratings. Having in home urgent care treatment options should provide a niche for many Villagers facing mobility or transportation issues. The Ocala practice is aligned with Advent Health.

Beware. Such a service is very limited in scope. 40 years ago I did some moonlighting for a similar service in NYC. We would carefully screen all requests to make sure it could be reasonably handled on a house call. This basically limited us to colds, sore throats, minor burns and injuries, and that was in 1985. With today's technology (and lawyers), I have some questions about just what type of problems this group would be willing to treat at home, where there is no lab, no x-ray, no CT, no EKG, etc. If they are ethical, they will tell you, on the phone , to go to the ER or urgent care, or to call an ambulance if the condition warranted. If they are in it for the money, they might show up, do a cursory history and exam, THEN tell you to go to a facility. That will be $300 please---cash or credit??????

Im sure insurance will pay for a injured finger if you walked out. Especially when they see you saved them money by doing that since tying up a spot in the ER was not called for
