Default New ER

There is a new stand alone ER on 44/Meggison Rd. I’ve only heard good things about it. HOWEVER, you should have gone to an Urgent Care facility and not an ER. It wasn’t life threatening. Personally, I would have given you ice and Advil…until you could get an appointment with your doctor, or an Urgent Care after the holiday.

at our age, everyone should know that you stay the heck away from the ER (or any medical facility) on a holiday...unless it's a true emergency...which a jammed finger is not

too bad the OP didn't just 'cowboy up'...have a couple more beers and spend the holiday with his grandkids

1 doctor onsite. Very nice.
1 radiologist viewing x-rays remotely covering 3 UF facilities.
Waited 3 hours to have my x-ray read.
No one could tell me when the 1 radiologist would get to my x-ray.

Grand Children visiting. Didn't want to spend the 4th of July in the ER with no
assurance I would receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Left in frustration.

Where do you go for treatment of non-life threatning injuries on a holiday in the Villages? People get hurt on holidays to. Why the poor coverage?
Realistically, your xray would have been electronically sent to a radiologist in TX or CA for reading. Likely, on that day, there may have been only one or two to read thousands of films sent to them from all over the country. It takes time.

READ the OP's post. He WENT to an URGENT CARE on 44. NOT an ER.

The OP posted the same complaint in "Next Door", but there they stated they went to the ER...

Did you miss this part of the OP's post? I mean, since you're so concerned about reading posts, and all...

Judging by the number of people who thought he went to an ER, I'm thinking he edited his post to add the urgent care part. Just my guess, but I think you nailed it.

If your finger was sprained you would be treated with a splint or by buddy taping the injured finger to its neighbor. If you had a simple fracture your finger would be treated with a splint or by buddy taping the injured finger to its neighbor. Only a very few complex fractures require anything more. So the Urgent Care doctor could have splinted or taped you and sent you on your way with a phone call follow-up to report the Xray later that day or even the next day. Frankly, I would think the Urgent Care doctor could read a finger Xray for anything major and depend on the radiologist for finding more subtle abnormalities.

NO, OP stated he went to UF Urgent Care on 44. UF = University of FL. There is a UF ER facility on 44. An ER facility is not the same as an Urgent Care facility. Santos Urgent Care is on 44, but I don't think he went there, as I doubt they have X-Ray equipment.
