Exclamation Urgent Eyesight Information

If you or someone you know is experiencing the eyesight problem of difficulty seeing things in the center of the field of vision, the problem might be AMD; Age-related Macular Degeneration.

An immediate visit to an ophthalmologist is warranted. The disease cannot be cured, but its progress may be slowed.

It was AMD that prompted Barbara to move from The Villages to a Western state where she could be near her children as her case of AMD progressed. It was first discovered by my ophthalmologist in Tampa, who treated it for a while before Barbara transferred to a specialist in The Villages. The treatments did seem to slow the progress of the disease.

But, in her new home Barbara got some GREAT NEWS. Apparently, an ophthalmologist there discovered that she had another problem, which could be improved by Laser treatments.

Today, after the treatments, she can again read the small print trailers that run across the bottom of the TV screens, and has no trouble reading the playing cards, which is a great blessing for a person as dedicated to card games as she is.

There is still a very small dot in the center of her vision where she cannot see, but this is not debilitating.

I post this as a message of hope for those with AMD type of eyesight problems. Even if you have complete confidence in your doctor, as she did here, a second opinion might be worthwhile. It took a doctor in a different state to revive Barbara's vision.

Best wishes.

Carl, I believe you may be referring to "secondary cataracts YAG treatment". I have macular, my right eye has a noticeable macular problem which really affects my peripheral vision in that eye. I have the beginning of wet macular in the left eye for which I get the injection treatment. At my last visit (monthly) with my specialist I mentioned that I was becoming very concerned about the loss of sight which was severely impacting my ability to drive, my husband had become my chauffeur. My specialist made an appointment with Dr. Ireland at St. Lukes. When I saw her she explained in full what the secondary cataract laser surgery was, but did say that she thought she could not do much for me.

I have just completed four visits with her, she first cleared the good eye and the difference was magical, like your friend I could once again see. I don't need glasses, but do have cheaters at 2.75 strength for close reading. I then had the really bad eye done last week and the results are the same, absolutely miraculous. My vision is much improved, I am never going to get rid of the macular, but my sight is 110% improved and I can drive again and do everything I want to do.

For those that might be facing loss of sight you might like to google Secondary Cataract YAG laser surgery. It is literally a 10 second procedure. Evidently in some people the cataract lens becomes heavily coated in protein substance, the yag breaks through this and restores your sight.
