Default Pertussis/Whooping Cough Vaccination

I have seen PSAs on television here about the dangers of pertussis/whooping cough and that there is a local outbreak. I know most/many of us got the DPT vaccine when young, but I encourage you to check with your doctor about getting a booster, especially if you have had a persistent cough.

One and a half years ago I had a chronic cough I couldn't shake, and my doctor finally ordered a blood test, as there was a local outbreak where I lived. Turns out that vaccines do NOT last forever, and I did have pertussis so I had another vaccination. I could easily have passed this on to babies and small children (like my grandchildren!) There is a reason it is called the "100 day cough."

I went online to the CDC, which stated that it is highly contagious, and "in infants younger then 1 year of age who get pertussis, about half are hospitalized. They could get pneumonia, apnea, as well as more serious complications, including death. In adults, the vaccine is NOT 100% effective, so the folks here in TV can come down with it.

I agree. About 4 years ago when I was going to Dr Vivian Woodard in Lady Lake it was time for my tetanus shot & she suggested I get a DPT booster. Glad she was looking out for her patients.

It is very very STUPID but insurance will not cover this vaccine in adults. It is $95 but is good for 10 years!! That is less than $10 a month. Please get your vaccines!
