Question about Insurance Plans....are these well received in The Villages?
My wife and I are planning to move this summer from Georgia. However, we are very happy with our insurance plans. We have the following:
Amerihealth as our supplemental provider for medical VSP for eyeglasses/eye exams Met Life for our dental needs Humana for pharma products Does anyone know, are these readily accepted in the Villages healthcare community? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Emilio |

Suggest you go to your insurance providers to ask this prior to moving. They should be able to provide you with information about their in network providers and whether your specific plans are accepted here. We were happy with our insurance before we moved here but found out it was only available in our home state.

Village Healthcare system only accepts 3 or 4 ADVANTAGE plans, from United Health care and 1 from Florida Blue. This means you will not be able to get a PCP in the Villages Health care system. I am guessing you have Medicare(??) in which case you will have access to all of the Villages SPECIALISTS, the local hospitals, Urgent care, stand alone ERs etc. If you are under 65, I strongly suggest to contact your insurer to see who accepts this insurance in the area. Florida SHINE (Senior Health Information Network) has lots of good information, onsite meetings and 800 phone info, SHINE - Home. Hope this helps.

This is true about the Village Healthcare system. However it is not the only doctor in town. There are many other choices available to you. Some people don't care for Medicare Advantage plans because they limit you choices to physicians in the network. If something major happens and you want to go to Moffit, or Mayo Clinic, or Shands, you cannot. |

In our case we had Humana for an advantage plan in Va before we moved here last year.
We were very familiar with Humana and at all possible wanted to stay with them. Village system did not accept Humana. We got a glowing recommendation for a physician with group that included other specialties so in order to go with them turned out we had to get a Humana Gold plan which we did and very happy we did so. |

Thanks for the replies/suggestions. Calling our providers first is sound advice, should have thought of that myself.

I’m receiving my second shot Wednesday through VA but I’m running into many people who have gone down to the groveland site and didn’t wait long and then were given an appointment for second, first shot just given in morning
