Need a new air conditioner.... who is the best, most reliable.l

I have several robellini palms in front of my home. Like many residents they didnt do well with the cold snap over the last few weeks. Now they are pretty brown, looking bad, and I was told several methods of pruning.... wait till mid march.....trim all brown branches now. I want to do this right, whats the correct way to handle this?
Also since this has happened several years running to one degree or another what would be a good replacement for these trees? ....palms or somethung else. Something that can handle the occasional winter cold snaps.
