Lauren, look at the vcdd recreation news each week for a month to see what single groups there are. The Villages is unbeatable for singles. It is not a meat market.
Post your question in the singles forum for more answers or when you plan to visit so we can meet you. There are probably thousands of singles.
I do know some single women living in TV, but can't say they necessarily live in one specific area. TV in general is a very safe place to live even though it is not a truly gated community. People look out for each other and the police force seems to be very active at keeping any crime, though minimal, under control. As far as getting around it depends on what you want to be close to. At this point Lake Sumter Landing is the most central area. Here is what I would suggest - wait until the off season (after March) and if you are able, go for a visit. You can get a pretty cheap rental especially in the summer months, by the week or by the month. Pick up a map as it is a big place and just do some exploring either by car or by golf cart. I know the area pretty well but do not live down there yet. I researched the area for 7+ years before buying. Having said that, I would be happy to continue to answer any questions you might have.
