Thanks to all who made the Girl Scout Alumnae Drive a success


The Girl Scout Alumnae drive was very successful this year thanks to so many folks!
Following last years limitations, the Group made a huge effort to collect enough new pajamas and new books to get into the hands of needy children by Christmas.

The service agencies that we work with, Marion County Public School’s Homeless and Needy Children’s Program and Lake & Sumter County’s Children Alliance picked up the last of our collection Tuesday and has worked diligently to accomplish this goal.

Without the Permission of Pam Henry from The Villages, the convenience of having the red donation boxes in 44 Recreation Centers would have hampered our efforts. The Recreation Center Managers who hosted the red boxes and the events sponsored to promote the drive, than you! The clubs and individuals who took time to hold drives within their groups were so important too. With calls and letters going out from our over 60 plus members, and all the community support, we encouraged all to think about the children needing a new thing to make them feel loved. You are all so appreciated! We collected almost 7,000 pairs of pajammas and almost 5,300 books!

If we sounded redundant, we just really feel strongly about this drive. Member, Mikki Blumberg started this drive thirteen years ago because she saw a local need. Unfortunately, that need still exists.
