Default Error in Daily Sun

Anyone else notice the error in The Sun's article on Dick Pesonen in last Sunday's sports page?In the article discussing the Villager's pro football career,it was mentioned by the author that Chuck Bednarik made the hit on Y.A. Tittle in that famous photo. That's the one that shows a bloody Tittle on his knees after absorbing a monstrous hit.It was not Bednarik that bloodied Tittle but was John Baker of the Pittsburgh Steelers.I emailed the sports department of the Sun but have not received an acknowledgement of my email nor seen a correction in the Sun.I thought at least I'd get a followup regarding my correction. There is a famous picture of Bednarik standing over a knocked out Frank Gifford.Oh well!

Don't read the sports page...BUT....a few weeks back there was an article that had continual errors in the spelling of a word. I e-mailed the person and tried to diplomatically bring this to her attention. Never received an e-mail back neither. NOT sure what their policy is on this. I would think a journalism major would want to have correct grammatical writing!!! Have also viewed poor grammar not only in newsprint (not just The Sun) but also with newscasters on t.v. So much for edumacation these days!!!

Is it possible that they need to check it out first before reacting and just haven't had the time yet! Just wondering, not making excuses for them!

That's been pretty much the case for many a years now, especially with the advent of the PC; spell checkers and all? The situation itself isn't anything that would call for a mention in the paper since there is nothing informational to correct, however it would have been nice if they at least rsponded with a thank you for bringing it to our attention, even if they didn't intend to do anything about it. Or... perhaps they got swamped with a ton correspondences like yours and the nature of the errors didn't warrant the productive time it would have taken up to respond to each of them!

If they check it out, they'll find out I'm correct and they're wrong. The famous picture was taken by Morris Berman a photographer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and has won numerous awards and is included in Sports Illustrated book of Sports Most Memorable Photographs. It is also on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton,Ohio.John Baker who made the tackle was elected as a sheriff in a rural county in North Carolina. This happened in the 1960's and is memorable in that Baker is African American. He held the office for many years.

Well I never saw a correction in the paper after one week nor did I ever get a reply saying they got my message about their error.I guess they just don't care that their facts are incorrect.

Yes mistakes happen but in journalism they have a chance to be corrected[and should be] I'm done talking about it!
