According to a column in the Daily Sun, Taylor Swift and Beyonce are generating big interest in their upcoming "concert movies". This begs the question, when is Hollywood going to produce another movie with a real actor, not a rock star.

Frankly, I'm tired of seeing her anywhere. I couldn't name one of her songs, and only very recently could recognize her photos. Kind of how I was with Madonna so many years ago. I'm an old crank, I guess, and couldn't care less about pop culture.

Could you care less back when Elvis was the big star? What about Sinatra, or Tom Jones? Once upon a time, no ne would ever ask the OP's question if Elvis had been the one on TV 5 times before the game even started, and was doing the half-time show.

That was that generation's big deal. I personally never liked Elvis, and I definitely didn't like football. I still don't.

But today's stars are for today's younger generations. They'll be the ones whining about the latest and greatest on TV in another 40 years. For now, this is their half-time show, their superstar. Ours are retired, dead, or on their way out. It's time to move over and give the new folks their day. They invite you to enjoy it with them - but you're not invited to trash it.

I agree with almost everything you say here, but all our stars are not completely washed up. The Stones, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles and a few others have stood the test of time and could still rock the Super Bowl half-time show.

When the actors strike is over, I’m guessing.

On The Eagles: Glen Frey is dead.
On The Stones: Charlie Watts is dead.
Bruce Springsteen: Cancelled all his shows because of failing health.
So yeah you've got Billy Joel.
We have a lot of other stars, but none of them would perform at an NFL half-time. I mean - could you imagine Genesis or Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull at a half-time concert? They're all still performing, they're all still amazing. And not one of them would do it. So they don't count.

What counts is who WOULD perform for a Superbowl halftime show. Remember these shows are only around 20 minutes long. The bands we would want to see - wouldn't even be able to set up their drum kits for something like this. A Pink Floyd halftime? Are you kidding me? The theatrical lighting and laser show alone would take 6 hours to set up, let alone the enormous helium pig held by around 20 people until they release it into the air.

What they need are individuals, fancy costumes, fireworks, choreography, and canned background music. Pop stars can deliver that in spades.

If I may interrupt this meeting of Curmudgeons, Inc. to ask……

Does this pattern of posts have anything to do with the fact that Taylor Swift encourages young people to vote?

Suspicious minds want to know.

The way they are fawning over Swift, it would seem "bigger than god" has a crush.

I’ve heard her name before, but had no idea who she is. My wife explained who she is and why she is so popular and now I understand why I had no idea who she is. I guess I’ll never be a Swiftie!
