Andre Agassi wins debut in U.S. Open Pickleball Championships - ESPN

I used to walk around a local dog park with a pickleball instructor. She was renting a home close by. I never asked her about pickleball pointers. This was probably before COVID though but am not sure.

It looks like both won with the same teenage girl by their side.

That teenage girl made more than $3 Million last year.

Good for her. My point was both older power houses had the same young phenomenon helping him win. They both cannot have her the next go around. Maybe her mother is available?

Jack competitive at singles pickleball also. I find it odd that singles tennis get all attention and doubles pickleball get all the attention?

Not big fan of Andre Agassi due to way he treated Pete Sampras just because he beat him in grand slams. his book revelation and early comments feeling about tennis, lots of skeletons in that closet? He would have felt worse if he had to get regular job and not privileged tennis pro son in Vegas.

If mother was competitive she would be playing with her. But, she realizes she can win and make more money with another high ranked player. I just hope she don’t end up like Arantxa Sánchez Vicario where her family stole all her money.

They lost in the round of 16 against a pretty low rated team. Just goes to prove that even a very good player (Waters) can't completely compensate for a weak (for a pro) partner.

Correct. ALW has a DUPR rating of 6.68 while Agassi only rates 5.43 While still impressive, 5.43 is not pro-level.

I watched some of one of their matches. Agassi has some skills, but you can see he's nowhere near as fluid as the regular PB pros. Part of it may be his age, but IMO it's mostly inexperience.

I faced him in tennis many moons ago (just hitting, not actual tournament play), maybe I'll look into this pickleball fad . . .

For what it's worth, I played David Wheaton in a tennis tournament 1 year before he turned PRO. And I met Agassi when he was in high school (and had hair) and I was a high school coach.

“sent to Nick Bollettieri's Tennis Academy in Florida at the age of 13” high school coach in Vegas? Or Florida?

I would've preferred hitting against Agassi when I was still playing tennis

Wow. I would have loved to have seen that match. Good for him and Anna-Leigh for taking on a 55 yr old as a partner!!
