Our 9 year old Grand daughter loves to use the camera... While she was here, she captured this photo of a "Momma Bird and Baby"...
Can anyone tell us the name of this bird?

Sorry, can't help you with the identity of the bird, but what a fabulous picture! Kudos to your granddaughter! She may give some of my other favorite photographers on this forum a run for his/her money!

Terrific photo! Does she have her own camera? If not, she should! (I don't know the bird either, sorry.)

What a great picture. She should be very proud of herself for getting such a nice shot. The bird is an anhinga. These are the water birds you see perched with their wings spread, drying their feathers in the sun. Unlike ducks, anhingas do not have oiled feathers and can get waterlogged diving for food. Males are mostly black, but the females have the brown head and chest you see in the photo.

Isn't that a sandhill crane and baby?

It is an anhinga but the baby looks like something Rosemary might have had..Seriously I see no hatchling there .. I know poor vision is a consequence of excessive age but WTF.
