Default Coral Snake

In one of the new sections under development. Here is a good thing to remember - The rhyme goes, 'red touching black, safe for Jack. Red touching yellow, kill a fellow'. This is the only rhyme that will identify a coral snake, one of the deadly serpents in North America.

Are you stating one was seen in the new construction area?

How about, "if yellow separates black and red, leave it be or wind up dead."??
Or,"red and black, yellow always between, run away, run away, they are deadly and mean".

Sorry, I like rhymes and got carried away. Absolutely gorgeous shot of this potentially deadly neighbor.
Thank you for sharing.

They aren't nearly as dangerous as people make them out to be. Actually they are an extremely docile snake.

O.K. for those schooled in snakes and snake handling. But don't encourage the general public to chance messing with anything they are not familiar with.

I'm not. Just stating a fact, they are a very docile snake. I didn't say go out and catch one.

Thank you for the warning. We are closing the garage door regularly.

Coral snakes are burrowing snakes. Highly doubtful you will ever see one in your garage.

What makes them deadly is most hospitals do not keep anti-venom because there are so few bites. It has to be brought in by mercy flight. There is a beneficial king snake that looks similar but with the right banding.
